Fuller’s earth is any clay material that has the capability to decolorize oil or other liquids without the use of harsh chemical treatment. Fuller’s earth typically consists of palygorskite (attapulgite) or bentonite. It is also called Multani mitti. The use of Fuller’s earth across the Indian subcontinent dates back to at least 1879. Fuller’s earth has a substantial ability to adsorb impurities or colouring bodies from fats, grease, or oils.
